  • % :50% of the total mark
  • Exam Details: Structured questions

-Paper 6:

  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Grades:40 marks
  • % : 20% of the total mark
  • Exam Details: Written paper assessing practical skills

Before 2023: 14 Topics

Starting from 2023: 12 Topics

Updates to the syllabus:

  • New chapter covering, “Chemistry and the environment”
  • The effects of temperature and pressure on gases
  • A new chapter pulling together the experimental skills and techniques

Topics no longer covered:

  • Weak bases
  • Thermal decomposition of hydroxides, carbonates and nitrates
  • Extraction of zinc
  • Control of soil acidity
  • Sulfur, sulfur dioxide properties of concentrated sulfuric acid
  • Inorganic carbon chemistry including manufacture of lime and cement, and chemistry of carbon dioxide
  • Organic chemistry associated with natural macromolecules, fats and carbohydrates
