Computer Science Syllabus’ Changes (2023- 2025)

Starting from 2023

As we know the syllabus of CS is divided into 2 section, the theoretical section is now called Computer Systems and the second part which is related to programming is now called Algorithms, Programming and Logic

-There are changes to the marks and % of each paper

There’re 2 papers:

-Paper 1:

• Duration: 1 hour, 45 minutes
• Grades: 75 marks
• % :50% of the total marks instead of 60%
• Exam Details: Questions on Section 1

-Paper 2:     

• Duration: 1 hour,45 minutes
• Grades:75 marks instead of 50 marks
• % :50% of the total marks instead of 40%
• Exam Details: Questions on Section 2
• There is no longer pre-release material
• The paper will contain a longer scenario-based question as well as short-answer and structured questions

Changes to Syllabus:

• Data packets and packet switching
• Understand what is meant by a core, cache and clock in a CPU and how they can affect the performance of a CPU
• Describe the purpose and characteristics of an embedded system and identify devices in which they are commonly used
• Digital currency
• Automated systems
• Robotics
• Artificial intelligence
• Programming concepts – define and use procedures and functions
• Arrays – Two-dimensional array
• File handling
• Databases – SQL

Topics in the current syllabus which will no longer be covered include:

• Query-by-example searches in databases
• Computer ethics
